Hello gang,
I’m typing this in a literal storm (take a peek at my stories to see), in a corner that feels both thrill of danger precarious, as the section I’m on sticks out over the river, that’s 30 metres higher than usual and also solidly stuck to the ground as the stubborn medieval French architecture efficiently guides the rain off the roof and adds to the mix.
It’s a cafe that feels like I’m in North Wales, where I grew up, wet, windy, lush, green and wild.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are playing and reminding me of my best friend turned nemesis from my teens, because I didn’t know that the jealousy I felt of her seemingly safe, warm cosy middle class home and ‘boring’ boyfriend and choice of university were actually just showing me what I wanted, to feel safe, seen and loved.
Like all of us do.
And this backdrop feels like a very fitting reflection of what we’re building in Joy Studio.
Our lives and businesses can feel choppy, like a storm that whooshes in and turns our beautiful plans frustratingly upside down.
It can feel exhausting, hopeless and too much.
It can feel like pausing means failing and being carried away.
But when we actually pause, we realise we never had control of the things outside us anyway, like me using my best British voice to tell the storm ‘we’ve had quite enough now’ - yet that’s what we’re often doing, which is why we get so tired.
So what do we do?
We look at what we can control.
We can pick our anchors, we can add layers to weather the storm, we can connect, learn from those who seem to be out surfing on the water and ask them to share the secret!
And we can notice the conditioning that creates competition, jealousy and comparison and instead choose to relax that tension, to allow what’s naturally there - collaboration, support and inspiration.
